Cover Story: India Edition 6 - AAKRITI RANA

Delight in details!

“I have received so much love and support from people. I want to give back by helping them in understanding life from my experiences,” Aakriti Rana talks about her journey as a Content Creator.

  1.  How does it feel to be a blogger/ Influencer? What is your Niche in Blogging?I am very creative and as a kid I always imagined what it would be like to make money by doing what I genuinely love doing which is creating content. I feel blessed for being able to turn my passion into my career. My niche is fashion and travel blogging. I also focus on self development and creating content which can help the younger generation in understanding the reality of the social media curated life so that they don’t feel inadequate.
  2. Could you describe a typical day?I usually wake up by 7am and start my day without touching my phone. I meditate, read books and have my black coffee in the morning. After breakfast I get ready, prepare for the shoot, start shooting by 11 and end it just before lunch. After lunch I rest and then I workout in the evenings. After that I edit, schedule posts for the next day, reply to emails, have dinner and sleep by 11:30-12.
  3.  What is your working environment like? Do you blog from home, an office or a cafe during normal days?I work from home which is more like a studio for me. I live by myself and I have done up my home in a studio format where every corner can be used for shooting. I have a dedicated space specially for conceptualising shoots and hsving  meetings.
  4.  Describe your personal fashion style?I absolutely love experimenting. I love trying out new styles and going out of my comfort zone. However my personal style is mostly about basics and comfort clothing. I dress according to my mood on most days. It’s sometimes edgy and sometimes feminine.
  5.  Who or what gave you the inspiration to start your own fashion blog. Who is your favorite International lifestyle blogger.I used to share my daily outfit pictures on Instagram while I was working as a trainee in an ad agency. There weren’t a lot of bloggers back then and I didn’t really know where this was going. When my followers on Instagram started growing, people started asking me to start a blog and put all details of my outfit there. My following suggested that and pushed me in that direction. My favourite blogger back then was Shea Marie. I loved her style and she was a big inspiration.
  6.  When was your first collaboration with a brand? What was the brand? My first paid collaboration came through after I had been blogging for about 2-3 months. It was with Missa more clothing brand.
  7.  Do you blog full time or do you have another job next to it? I have never worked anywhere full time as an employee. I was with an ad agency as a trainee for sometime and I started blogging that time. Before they could make me permanent, I left and started focusing on my blog.
  8. What are some of your goals with your blog? My only goal is to help people by adding value to their lives. I love helping people in understanding different ways to curate creative content. I give out all my secrets openly. Since I have received so much love and support from people, I want to give back byhelping them in understanding life from my experiences. Anxiety is skyrocketing among youngsters and I make a lot of self help videos for this reason.
  9.  Where is your favorite place in the world to live and work as a blogger and why?I love India. I feel comfortable here and honestly I wouldn’t ever want to settle abroad. So my favourite place to live would be around mountains (I love nature) in India and anyway my work allows me to travel a lot to different countries where I can create amazing content and come back.
  10.  What according to you is the future of Lifestyle/ Fashion blogging in India considering the current times? The industry has taken a big hit. For about 2 years our economy won’t go back to being where it was. Lifestyle and fashion blogging has also taken a setback but we can always adapt. Blogging is about being creative as well.
  11. Blogging as a career is growing in India. What would your advice be for anyone wanting to start a blog? Three Main things - firstly, be consistent. It’s very important to take this as a full time career and dedicate a lot of time to it. Otherwise it becomes tough to grow. Secondly, quality is very important. More than quantity. Thirdly, create content which adds value.
